Quebec City deserves a team and will get one soon, but Dube's report that Coyotes players are being instructed to learn the French language could be one of the five biggest lies of all-time.

Agreed. It's the same BS each year playoff time to distract the team. |

Can't argue the skeptical nature of the statement one bit, only passing along that this info coincides with much of what is going on behind the scenes. I, for one, doubt that the Coyotes have been pushed that far as it seems irrelevant to actually playing hockey in Quebec City, if it were to get that far.
It's beyond me to assume that if the NHL actually moved back to QC that they would instruct the players to start learning French before anything actually happened, though it wouldn't hurt the players to prepare for that possibility.
It's a sideshow of an issue compared to the bigger wheels that are turning but just goes to show how intense the push is becoming.
I am all but positive that we will see a litany of arguments for and against, including random situations like that which Dube has brought up, but it all points towards momentum building for the NHL's return in the near future.
To be honest, I'm very curious to see what kind of moves are made in the next 2 months as with news of the arena moving forward, everyone now shifts focus to see if the next round of cash calls in Phoenix will be answered...

Sylvain St-Laurent laid it out in a much more believable manner; rather, that it was a 'suggestion' of sorts as opposed to instruction.
The tone here is the unbelievable part. If some were passed along a tip - well, that's certainly possible.

I take that the Colisée Pepsi when opened in 1949 is still structurally sound even with proposed improvements? |

Agreed, I slipped the mention/link in there because it was something that had come up in discussions and thought the idea of that "being passed along" was very intriguing. Needless to say, it doesn't help what is a cloudy-at-best situation for the Coyotes at the moment.
I take that kind of stuff with a grain of salt, much as you're indicating, it's the other stuff that, when put together, paints a very compelling picture for the return of hockey in QC.

Steve, you might want to read this regarding Dany Dubé's remarks.

Is there a translated version of the artical?
Even though I am Canadian I am very much not Bilingual.
I am a fan of Canadian Hockey and an 8th team in
Canada would be wonderfull just think of not only the old
rivalries, but new ones like Ottawa and Quebec. |

Wow maybe I read this wrong but it does sound like a lot of backtracking on Dube's part. But again if Glendale does decide against putting in another 25m it might be a forgone conclussion.
As much as I want a Seattle or Portland team Quebec makes more sence with the re-alignment problems.
I do not believe the NHL owners or the NHLPA want a work stoppage yet so soon after the NFL and the NBA and their own 7 years ago It would hurt whatever momemtum the NHL has built up.
So is Quebec the answer to the realignment stalement?
I hope so. |

Glendale can't put any more money into this thing. How many years of serious negotiations with prospective buyers have there been. Who in their right mind is going to pay$170M+ for a team that will continue to lose $25-30M/year. Goldwater will tie everything up in court if the city tries to provide any subsidies. They are done. |

to bring stability and great hope to the team Quebec city is really the only option the nhl has. It failed in Glendale and i do not see Seattle as being a big hockey town, they can barely handle a baseball team. |

So let me get this straight you would rather have the blue jackets and the yotes then the cats?
Not that I don't like the yotes |
|
|
|
Balsillie moving the Yotes to Hamilton. Done deal. Whoops!
True North moving the Yotes to Winnipeg. Done deal. Whoops again!
Quebecor moving the Yotes to Quebec City. Done deal. 3rd time, the charm???
Personally I'd rather see them go to Seattle if they have to leave, and then kick Detroit into the East where they belong. And move Winnipeg back to the West. |
